2007-2008 Season

 

BOYS: Tryouts for the 2007-2008 Season will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 4 and Thursday, Sept 6 from 3:30 to 5:30

 Both Days of Tryouts are Required.

 

GIRLS:Tryouts for the 2007-2008 Season will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 5 and Friday Sept. 7

from 3:30 to 5:30

Both Days of Tryouts are Required.

 

Tryouts: Tryouts for the fall season will include running, erging, and a general fitness test, as well as a 2 week trial period, which ends on September 21st. A list will be posted of athletes who made the team no later than Saturday, September 22nd.

Tryouts for the Spring Season will be held on January 7th and 8th. A list of athletes who made the team for the spring season will be posted no later than January 9th. Criteria for making the team includes, but is not limited to the following five things: 1) Weight adjusted erg score 2) General fitness 3) Attitude and Coachability 4) Rowing Ability 5) Coaches discretion.

Practices: 3:00 - 6:00 pm M-F (90% attendance required to participate in racing)

Races: Approximately 1-2 Races in the Fall (including our own Newport Autumn Rowing Festival); 5-7 Sprint Races in the Spring. Those who take first or second place at the Southwest Regional Championships in May qualify for the U.S. National Youth Championships in June.

Cost: The yearly cost for the Jr. Rowing Program is approximately $3,250 ($1600/fall; $1650/spring). This fee includes coaching fees, facility use, all travel, lodging, busing, all race-day meals, regatta entry fees, US Rowing Membership and equipment upkeep. Parents and athletes will also be encouraged to participate in fundraising programs.

Program Goals
Our rowing program provides a challenging and rewarding opportunity for high school student/athletes that incorporates a high level of team work and physical conditioning. Although the program is highly structured and competitive, there is a strong emphasis placed on enjoyment and respect for our outdoor environment. A wonderful chance to build friendships, rowing brings together boys and girls of all backgrounds for a common goal.
