Try-outs
Girls Varsity: August 24th (Starts at 3:30pm)
Boys Varsity: August 22nd to 25th (Starts at 3:30pm)
Girls Novice: August 23rd and 24th (Starts at 3:15pm)
Boys Novice: August 25th and 26th (Starts at 3:30pm) - Makeup tryouts for Novice Boys are August 29th and 31st (or by appointment with coach)

Boys: September 14th starting at 6:30pm


Practices

3:30 - 6:00 pm M-F (90% attendance required to participate in racing)

Races
Approximately 2-3 Races in the Fall (including our own Newport Autumn Rowing Festival) and 5-7 Races in the Spring. A first, second or third place finish at the Southwest Regional Championship in May qualifies for the U.S. National Youth Championships in June. Most regattas are local to California; However coaches have discretion to select teams for additional racing. Check our Race Schedule.

Cost
The 2011-2012 season tuition for the Jr. Rowing Program is $3,450 (does not include required athlete uniform). This fee includes coaching fees, facility use, all travel, lodging, busing, all race-day meals, regatta entry fees, US Rowing Membership and equipment upkeep. Parents and athletes will also be encouraged to participate in fundraising programs.

Program Goals
Our rowing program provides a challenging and rewarding opportunity for high school student/athletes that incorporates a high level of team work and physical conditioning. Although the program is highly structured and competitive, there is a strong emphasis placed on enjoyment and respect for our outdoor environment. A wonderful chance to build friendships, rowing brings together boys and girls of all backgrounds for a common goal.

Tryouts
Tryouts for the fall season will include running, erging, and a general fitness test, as well as a 2 week trial period. A list will be posted of athletes who made the team.

Mid-season evaluations are performed before the Spring Semester begins. A list of athletes returning to the team for the spring season will be posted no later than January 9th. Spring semester tuition is due during the first week of January for both the boy’s and girl’s teams.

Criteria for making the team includes: 1) Weight adjusted erg score 2) General fitness 3) Attitude and Coachability 4) Rowing Ability 5) Coaches discretion.
